On Tiffany
Tiffany notices what other people miss, a cracked tile, a crooked picture, the one guest at the bar in odd socks, and she finds all of it delightful. Petite of frame though 169 cm tall, she wears her chocolate brown hair long. Brown eyes that move quickly and miss nothing. Her style is relaxed sparkle: a sequinned top beneath a soft jacket, gold sandals, hair left loose and a little windblown. She once rearranged a hotel's lobby flowers for a better photograph, and the manager thanked her.
Graceful and playful, mid twenties, with English that teases lightly and warmly. Street photography is her daily practice, a small camera always in her bag, the shutter set to silent. Champagne is her pleasure, and she prefers a good vintage from a small house to any famous label. Design hotels are her weakness. She books them for the lobbies alone, photographs the light at breakfast and remembers every one, down to the door handles.
Her favourite corner of this quarter is Shepherd Market, the small tangle of lanes and old pubs tucked behind Curzon Street, which she photographs at dusk when the lamps come on. Five minutes on foot brings you to The May Fair Hotel on Stratton Street for a glass of champagne before supper, and she will want to see your photographs as well as show you hers. She knows which lane catches the best light at which hour.

As Tiffany keeps it
She meets you at the edge of the market with her camera already out, framing the lamplit lane in front of you. Tiffany has a playful eye and a graceful way of moving through a crowd, and she will show you the photograph she has just taken before she says hello properly. The first glass is champagne, and she asks you to guess the year. Conversation is light, clever and full of small observations: the waiter who folds napkins like origami, a hotel in Marrakech whose lobby she photographed forty times, a pigeon that has occupied the same Mayfair windowsill for as long as she can remember. Dinner is relaxed and pretty. She notices everything and remarks only on the best of it. You leave seeing the city a little more clearly.
Three questions for Tiffany
Doorways, and people waiting in them. Everyone looks slightly different when they think nobody is watching. The waiting tells you more than the arriving.
I ask what the waiter drinks on his night off, then order the one just above it on the list, because it is my night on.
