On Roxi

Roxi is very easy to find in a restaurant: follow the laughter. Black hair, long. Brown eyes that sparkle a second before the joke lands. Curvy, 168 cm. Her style is playful glamour, a bright colour, a gold detail, a little shimmer at the ear. She enters a room as if bringing good news, and quite often she is.

Confident and vivacious, early twenties, English at full speed and full enthusiasm for whatever she is describing. Three mornings a week she is in a boxing gym by half past six, which explains both the posture and the appetite. She surfs whenever she can reach a coast, badly at the start of each season and rather well by the end. Podcasts fill every commute, on everything from ancient history to bread, and she will have recommended one to you before dessert. Her current obsession is a series about lighthouse keepers, and she will name the best episode whether or not you ask.

Near Piccadilly she likes Hawksmoor on Air Street, a handsome dining room of wood and brass a few steps from the Circus, where the steaks are serious and the mood is not. She orders with gusto, shares generously and is always the first to suggest pudding. If you would prefer fish, she will pretend not to be disappointed, and fail charmingly.

Roxi is based in Pimlico and introduced chiefly around Piccadilly. Her rate starts at £600 an hour, and rates lists the rest. Booking puts you in touch with Octavia. Late suppers suit her perfectly.

// Octavia's noteRoxi is at her best over a good dinner. Book the dinner date at £1,800, or two hours at £1,100 if you only have time for steak and conversation.

05 // an evening

As Roxi keeps it

She greets you with a grin and a question about your day that sounds casual and is not. Roxi is lively from the first minute, but she reads a room well and pitches her energy to match yours. Dinner is where she shines. She asks the waiter for his favourite cut, insists you try a side dish you would never have chosen and steals exactly one of your chips. The conversation ranges widely: a wave she caught in Cornwall, an episode about the history of the fork, the trainer who insists on a skipping rope before any gloves go on. Funny, warm and entirely unselfconscious, she soon has the next table listening in, and you understand why. The volume, all evening, is set exactly right.

? // in her words

Three questions for Roxi

Medium rare, sauce on the side, and chips I pretend I will not finish. I always finish them.

A long run by the river, a podcast about something I know nothing about, a roast with friends and a very good crumble, and an early night that never quite happens.

My boxing coach, without meaning to. Chin down, eyes up. It works in the gym, and it works surprisingly well at a dinner table.
