On Sonya
Sonya can identify most perfumes from across a table, and she is far too polite to mention it unless you ask. She stands 162 cm and carries it like a dancer; the build is athletic, shaped by years at the barre. Dark brown hair, straight and long, usually drawn back from the face. Hazel eyes, calm and kind. Evening clothes are understated to the point of discipline: navy, a whisper-fine knit wrap, small earrings and very little else, because very little else is needed.
Calm, thoughtful and warm. Early thirties. English in an even, considered voice that never needs to be raised. She meditates each morning and speaks about it only when asked, and then without a trace of preaching. Ballet remains her great love: the class she still takes twice a week, the performances she saves for months ahead. Fragrance is her collector's passion. She owns more small bottles than she will admit and can describe each one so vividly that you almost catch the notes.
Near Green Park she chooses Wiltons on Jermyn Street, an old-school dining room of oysters, game and white linen, where the service is formal and the room is quiet enough to hear a sentence through to the end. She orders simply, eats slowly and asks about your day as though she had cleared her own for the purpose.
Sonya lives in Knightsbridge; Green Park is two stops away on the Piccadilly line. One hour is £600, and rates shows the longer formats. Please give Octavia a little notice through booking, since her diary fills early in the week.

As Sonya keeps it
She arrives on the minute and brings a stillness with her that is hard to describe and easy to enjoy. Sonya begins slowly, with something light in a glass and a question about your day that invites more than a word in reply. If a perfumer is still open on the way to dinner, you will spend five minutes inside while she chooses a scent for you without once reading a label. At the table she is warm and attentive, and she talks about ballet the way some people talk about home, fondly and in detail. She notices tiredness and quietly adjusts for it. When the plates are cleared the evening has found a gentle rhythm, and the city outside seems to have slowed down to keep time with it.
