Thea arrives with the healthy colour of someone who cycled most of the way, and usually she did. Caramel blonde hair, long. Green eyes, frank and friendly. Curvy, 165 cm. Her look is natural and sunlit and needs very little help: a simple dress, a denim jacket for the ride, flat shoes rolled into her bag for later. Nothing about her is fussy, and everything about her is warm.
Cheerful and down to earth, late twenties, with English that is relaxed and easy to laugh along with. Weekends belong to hiking, often in the Chilterns, sometimes further, always with a flask and a proper map. She cycles everywhere in London, in all weathers, and knows the quiet back routes between most postcodes. She has cycled to Brighton twice and will tell you about the hill that nearly beat her. Japanese food is her great enthusiasm, from ramen counters to formal kaiseki, and she holds strong opinions about rice that she will share only if you ask.
Near Green Park she likes Kiku on Half Moon Street, a calm Japanese restaurant just off Piccadilly that has quietly fed Mayfair for decades, where she sits at the counter when she can and orders the chef's selection with visible delight. She explains each dish without ever making you feel you ought to know already. Afterwards, a turn through Green Park itself, rain or shine.

As Thea keeps it
She greets you like an old friend, because that is simply how Thea greets people. Good food in front of her is when she is happiest, and she approaches a Japanese menu the way a walker approaches a new trail: curious, patient, a little excited. She will show you the right way to lift the rice, laugh when she fumbles it herself, and describe a noodle bar in a railway station she still dreams about. The talk is easy and unpretentious: a long walk along a chalk ridge, a puncture in the rain, the finest view she has ever reached on foot. Afterwards she might propose ten minutes in the park before the evening closes. Warm, honest company, and never once hard work.
