On Tina

Tina altered the jacket she is wearing herself, and if you admire it she will show you the seam she is proudest of. She is 158 cm and athletic, her espresso brown hair long, her brown eyes quick to fold into laughter lines. Her way of dressing is confident and easy: a navy dress cut close, a cropped jacket, a small gold chain, heels she can walk in all evening without a word of complaint.

Warm, confident and genuinely easygoing, mid twenties, with a quick smile audible in her English. Fashion design is her training and her ongoing project; she sketches, cuts and sews in a small studio at home and has opinions about every lapel on the street. Her proudest alteration turned an old dinner jacket into something she now wears to the opera. She collects records, mostly soul and disco, and files them by mood rather than alphabet. Craft cocktails complete the picture, and she keeps a notebook of recipes gathered from bartenders across London.

Near Piccadilly she loves Bar Américain, the Art Deco cocktail bar below Brasserie Zédel on Sherwood Street, a few steps from the Circus. It is dark, polished and faintly Parisian, and she will order something classic and ask the bartender for the story behind it, then add it to the notebook, which has reached its third volume.

Tina lives in Covent Garden and is introduced around Dover Street and Piccadilly. From £600 an hour; the full list is on rates. Write to Octavia through booking and she will reply quickly. Short notice is usually fine.

// Octavia's noteTina is easygoing about plans and exact about timing. Ninety minutes at £900 suits cocktails near the Circus; the dinner date at £1,800 turns it into a full evening.

05 // an evening

As Tina keeps it

She arrives with a record bag over one shoulder, having stopped at a shop on the way, and will show you what she found before the first drink. Tina is confident and warm, with a knack for making a new acquaintance feel at ease almost immediately. The bar is her choice: somewhere with proper glassware and a bartender who likes to talk. She orders a classic, tastes it critically and delivers a verdict. The conversation ranges from hemlines to basslines to the correct quantity of vermouth. At dinner she is funny, curious and full of plans, a jacket she is designing, a club night she wants to find again. The evening has an easy, stylish rhythm, and it closes with a recommendation, a record or a recipe, written on whatever paper is nearest.

Three questions for Tina

Sunday morning, Friday night and heartbreak. Everything fits into one of the three, and nobody else can ever find anything.

A skirt for a birthday party, with the zip put in upside down. I wore it anyway. Confidence covers most mistakes.

More than people think, and it must be fresh. Open vermouth belongs in the fridge. I will argue with anyone on this.
